I have 7,500 miles on 99 PSD f250. When driving just over 2000 RPM's or higher loud engine noise(I think), sounds almost like a whistle. First time this happened was when pulling trailer. Now it does it when going through the gears up to speed, 60 - 65 MPH. Does any one have any thoughts. Thank You.
My 99' F 350 with PSD started that louder whistle noise and sounded great until i started noticing what sounded like a exhaust leak right about at turbo area, come to find out the clamp on the down pipe had loosened and spun down, with knees on the radiator support and a 7/16 deep socket I spun clamp up and tightened, no more noise!! It had black diesel smoke residue right at the clamp, look with a flash lite, Good luck ...Mark
I just bought a 99 powerstroke with 28,000 miles.
Engine noise is readily apparent at speeds over 65 and RPM's over 2100. The turbo whistles just a little at times when running steady at 70. Any slight strain on the engine causes this. I am not happy with the sound deadening Ford has done to limit engine noise on this engine. It is bothersome after a long trip and much noiser than a gas engine. I guess I'll have to live with it. Anyone know a way to help with engine noise? I thought about undercoating to help with some road noise maybe?
