Is the front drive line supposed to be turning while in 2h and hubs in the free position?
Also, I have this "bang bang bang bang" sound coming from the front drivers side wheel that goes faster as I drive. When I put it in 4h and lock the hubs, it gets worse. And like I said, the front drive line is turning.
Take your hub apart on that side and take a look. I bet that is the problem. It probably is stuck or broke and will not quite disengage or engage. This problem is common with ford auto hubs but it sounds like you have manuel hubs but I have seen this happen to manuel hubs.
I'll take a wild stab in the dark and say that it sounds like a wheel bearing or a ball joint...My f-150 has a bad ball joint and it sounds just like a bad cv-joint in a front wheel drive car--if you've ever heard one of those.
