Resistor Mod Help

I have a 97 stroker and put a resistor mod on it. I put a 10k potentiometer and a flip switch that adds another 20k. I know its a lil overkill but go big or go home. It smokes now, but not a black cloud by any means, and it doesn't have the lope in the idle. Do I need to shim my FPR? Will that make some thicker smoke? I'm having my IDM modded soon as well.

Also, what is the clamp mod? I went to forgotten diesel and couldn't figure out what was being modified and how it was done. Also, is it worth doing the EOT mod? I have no idea how it's done and I dont want to decrease tranny life. I'm in college and a new tranny isnt in my budget. What about a MAP Sensor mod and/or hot pedal? Just heard of those today- what are they and how safe are they?

Your not going to get lots of smoke with resistors. Even chipped mine smokes but not alot. The injectors simply can't flow enough fuel. If you want lots of smoke your gonna need bigger sticks

The resistors won't get you much other than some blown out IPR orings. Sure, you can tell the difference, but not much. Get a good chip from DP or Tony Wildman. They will get you all the smoke your truck has to offer with stock injectors. But if you want more, ya gotta do injectors.

Like Duck said the best way is with some tuning. First you need to open up the exhaust and the Intake. THE 6637 filter is a fairly cheap mod and your engine will enjoy being able to take full breaths-then lose the kitty and muffler and you are good to start PMS

Shim the fuel pressure -ford had it lower than international recomended for the engine plus in time the regulator spring weakens and you lose some there. The hotpedal mod will help to make sure when you stomp on the pedal the PCM is seeing full voltage and fueling accordingly. If you do not get the tuner then go for the EOT mod. THis will trick the PCM into thinking the engine is cold and advance the timing. MAP sensor mod won't do much as a stock truck usally can't make enough boost to have the pCM defuel.
The resistors are fun because they are cheap and easy to do(minus the 140v IDM) but if you want more smoke and power then tunes are the only way to go.

i havnt run into any o-ring issues with the resistor mods, they dont command anymore oil or fuel then the good chips do. the good chips are just more accurate at giving you the power. the resistors are a crude way to do it but are also cheap, fun and easy to do.

I couldn't agree more cOOn. I too was very excited when I was starting out with the resistors. Once I had it, everyone I new had to try it. It was like crack.

X2. No o-ring issues on mine either. I've done some dyno runs with the different resistors and am amazed at the results.

The minimal cost is a huge bonus.

The others are correct, of course. Tuners, chips and injectors are the way to make bigger gains.

I've installed a 6637 filter and opened up the exhaust. I kept the cat and installed the muffler that came with the 4" DiamondEye exhaust. Haven't dyno'ed with the new exhaust yet, but that's coming up next month.

Search for "ICP Resistance Mod Results" and you should find my dyno run results.
