Question 10k mod too?

I came into some $$$ so I've ordered some goodies for my truck; trans bypass filter, Fumoto valve, Stancor GPR, Hutch mod kit, Pete's filter cover and some other stuff.

In getting this stuff together, I remembered that I never asked anyone if the 10k mod works on my 99.5. I did a forum search and just got more confused... of course I've been up for almost 24 hours so I'm not the sharpest tack in the box right now.

So, does the 10k mod benefit a stock 99.5 7.3? I don't tow much but that may change in the future.

Thanks, CedricR.

$ ? Have any extra?

I did the 10K mod. Didn't like the way it made my truck shake at idle and the Idle was higher and not consistent. Did not notice any thing worth mentioning. Once i felt the shake and the idle all over the place. I popped my hood again for the 1,000,000 time to take it back out. for the time being.

I think Dan covered the downside to the 10k well. If you're looking for some other cheap mod, read up on the IDM mod.

I've done the 10K, again the idle is bad but I did notice some "off the line" power gain. Throttle was a little more responsive.

While the IDM mod is more difficult to do, initially, it does give you the benefits like 10k without its noticable side effects. If you are leary of doing the IDM mod, you could always do the 'switched 10k' with the IVS activated relay to disengage it at idle.

10K mod adds more power without addressing the transmission line pressures or shift points, timing, injector pulsewidth, etc. It's fun to play with at first, but after a while a full blown chip or tuner is the better investment.

Thanks everybody. I think I'll let the 10k mod go undone. I got a good 7.3 and I'd hate to mess it up; I'm no mechanic.
According to what I've read here on FTE, I've got forged rods, an updated Pittman arm, a higher voltage IDM and no real weak points that can't be addressed with what I'd call upgrades instead of mods.

I plan on keeping this truck a long time. It was 5 years old and had 57k on it when I bought it. They wanted 23k and I traded my V6 GMC 1/2 ton and wound up paying 16k. In every way, this is the best truck I've ever owned. I can't afford the prices of the new trucks and I doubt that they could be any better than this one.
