Drove my truck for the first time in the rain. The wipers did not wipe the water very good. It has been changed to 12v electric. I am thinking I need new blades. Can these be replaced with something from a parts store or do I need to order them from a old truck parts company? Is there a better kind that can be used for better results? Also, when I shut the wipers off, they stopped high up on the windshield. Is this an adjustment in the arms or do they need replaced?

Rockauto has them for about $7 each. If you want the polished stainless steel blade arms, then most of the restoration parts places sell them, e.g., Mid Fifty, etc. for about $12 - $15 ea.

Adjusting the blades to stop at the bottom of the windshield is a pain. If you take off the arms and reposition the blades, then the wipers will move too far down past the rubber weather strip during the wiper cycling.

I have this problem and have yet to adjust the pivot arm on the wiper motor. Since it does not rain much in AZ, I use the wiper switch to turn the wipers off when they run parallel to the window at the bottom of the stroke; I then remove the wiper fuse. If it rains, I put the fuse back in. Otherwise the wiper blades will be about 4” high on the glass.
Is there a tech article somewhere for the conversion? This was already done on my truck and I do not remember what I did 18 years ago when I owned a 54. Edzackory, they were stopping at the bottom when I first purchased the truck and I tested them. They for some reason just started to act up. I was wondering if the pivot arm or some other part needs replaced when going from vacum to electric?

Be sure to check the connections and clips on the arms. I had a set on my 55 that kept backing apart and as they did, the blades would not park correctly.
Also, on some motors (like the Newport Engineering 12V conversion) there is a mechanical adjustment for boththe arm swing and the parking position.
PS. Also be sure to check that the springs in the lower arms (that pull the arm toward the windshield and keep tension on it) are in place. They are underneith and inside the arms at the base.
If you lift up on the arms about 2 inches, they should snap back to the windshield "smartly." If not, then you'll need new arms - no one sells just the springs
