C Notch kits?

Yay! Sold my motorbike and '67 Cortina so now ready to start getting the lowering bits in for my Mutt truck and all is in place and ready to order except a C notch kit which I can't seem to find anywhere for an'83 F150 OR F100 (being as apart from being sure that I don't have a swiss cheese frame I'm still not 100% WHAT my truck is).

Would the 2 kits most likely be different and has anyone got a link to where I can get the kit(s)?

PS as an afterthought, I've been using the search over the last few days trying to understand which particular years/cars gave "good" 302's and which gave "bad" as once again I have been confused - by head types, and god knows what else. Is there a simplified guide/table anywhere of what came in what and which to avoid? Looking at buying a whole car if necessary as 351's are just stupidly expensive for what is in the most part boxes of bits - ditto the 460 I have found. I am happy though that I have found some bargain 18's that will fit nicely under the soon to be (hopefully) lower arches.

There are really no "bad" 302's, they are all pretty much the same. The early ones had the rail rocker arms, and if these get a lot of wear(I do mean a lot), they can come down and knock the keeper off the valve stem, and the valve drops into the cylinder. But they rarely get that bad for it to happen.

There was a goody 302 4bbl engine that cam out in the beginning, but they are very hard to find. When you get into the mid 80's and up, that's when things get interesting with the Mustang engines, with the different heads and forged pistons with siamesed bores in the block.

Ok thanks, it not like I am massively spolit for choice over here anyways but always nice to know if there is something in particular to look out for, or avoid.

Now then, where can I get the notch kit?

Why dont you notch it yourself? Cut a desired notch and reinforce the back side.

I have seen bolt in notches that came with a flip kit but I cant find it anymore.

Thought about it, and talked with a mate about it (he's a fabricator/sheet metal worker). I guess the plate won't be too expensive to come by...whats the usual thickness used?

There is no "usual" thickness but my guess would be any kit would have at least 1/4" thick plate.

Most people don't realize that if properly engineered, you only need the same thickness as the original frame which I believe is about 3/16" IIRC.

Your weakest point no matter what is going to be the thinnest material. In this case, it happens to be the factory frame rails.

BTW: a simple Google search yielded:

c notch kit - Google Search

214,000 hits for "c notch kit"...................

One motor to avoid is the 79-80,81? 302 which is really a 255. I dont know which years exactly, but it was very early 80's in which it was used. It's basically a destroked 302 but has few if any interchangeable components with an actual 302.
