Emergency Brake Dragging

I have a 2001 F150 4x4 supercab with 150,000 miles.

I noticed that my emergency brake seemded to be dragging.

When I went to remove the disc, it would appear the the inside drum emergency brake is holding it on. I can move the disc on the hub, but it hangs. Looking into the access hole on the back of the plate, it appears not to be of any use as there doesn't appear to be a star adjuster.

Any advice on how to get this off without destroying the emergency brake assembly on the inside?

Thanks in advance.

Should be one per side, spin them in so you can pull the rotor without yanking the shoes off the backing plate due to the ridge in the rotor.

Ok help me out. I know nothing about brakes. What does it mean to spin them in? How do you do it?

It's not a Ford vehicle but the same basic setup. You turn the star wheel at the bottom, one direction forces them out and the other direction allows them to collapse toward the center making for a smaller diameter.

if your emergency brake is dragging, just pick it up and put it in the back of the box or something until you get a chance to duct tape it back on there. i find if i wind up a bunch of strands off my pretty little sisters head, it makes a nice snug rope that should hold the dang ol' thing on thar

Thanks for the help. After I was able to spin them in it allowed me to take off the rotor. That allowed me to observe nothing was wrong with the parking brake in the drum. Turns out I had a damaged cable up front that had become rusted inside the cable. That froze the cable. A new one from the stealership and I was on the road again.

Thanks
