I'm debating on installing a Sirius radio in my '04 scab. I see the radio has an "AUX" button on it. I've read that some vehicles has a plug receptacle in the glove box, under dash, etc where you can plug an accessory into and have it play over the radio by pushing the "AUX" button. Does anyone know if there is a plug-in on this series of Frod truck? I would hate to have to go through the trouble of hard-wiring it to the radio and I'm not a fan of using the casette adapter to play things over the radio (I do that with my iPod and the cords are just a freaking mess).
Some trucks have it and some don't. Mine didn't so i had local radio shop order part called PIE (link show similar unit) that would plug in between radio and wiring harness that would use AUX button for output. Kind of like using factory installed equipment but not. I have been meaning to get pics and show where i had my sirius installed and post, i will try to do it this evening. Since i don't smoke i removed inner part of ash tray and got sirius unit mounted inside, so you can close ash tray and look stock.
I have an XM unit on my 2004 which I wired up using the
Precision Interface Electronics (FRD04-AUX) wiring harness. It works great. Basically plugs in between your stock radio and the stock radio harness. The PIE then uses RCA connections from your Sirius or XM unit and sends them to your radio through the AUX interface. It sounds as good as my CDs. When you want to listen to your Sirius/XM channels you just press AUX on your stereo and your rockin'.
Check out the PIE website. www.pie.net
I used to use the FM modulator mode. The PIE unit sounds sooooo much better. It costs ~ $100 but worth it!
I have the PIE unit in my truck, as previously mentioned. My only small problem is that the steering wheel control that lets you scroll am-fm-cd-aux no longer works properly. SMALL issue. has anyone else had this and were you able to get it fixed and how? I can avoid issue by using radio buttons but think its crazy to do so. If i remove PIE issue also goes away.
My truck has the dash-tray input jack. I just use my XM's (now XM/SIRIUS) radio's bulit-in fm modulator. I can use the AUX jack, but I save that for my MP3 player.

DRM2004 - Do you have the same problem with your steering wheel controls (if you have them) that 4x4 had with his? I would hate to lose that functionality.

It may just be the model of pie adapter that is being used. I have a pie adapter made by isimple and my sterring wheel controls work fine.
I have the PIE adapter too and the steering wheel controls work fine. I did have a problem with the left side speakers cutting out. I realized that I had it too close to the vent so whenever it got hot from the heater it would cut out. So basically, watch where you put it.
