I recently purchased a 460 and a C6 that was supposed to be out of a '71 Lincoln. This motor is going to be stripped down for drag racing, but I need all the pertinant information first. Is there anyone who can tell me any places I can go to run the part numbers. I need to find out info like intake runner size, valves, combustion chambers, block specs, etc. Any information will be helpful. These are all ther part #'s I have gotten so far, without pulling the motor down...Thank you for your help.

Ok guys, I think I should clarify myself. I dont need to know how to race the 460, I need to know the specs on the 460. I need to knjow compression ratio, valve lift, recommended valve lash, cam specs, ring gap tolerances, intake/exhaust runners, head cc's, etc. Thank you for the broad information, but I really need to find out all of the real specs.

LWhittington,
The year of manufacture is not quite as important as the engineering revisions, or "casting numbers."
The cylinder head casting numbers are located on the outside of the head, along the valve cover mounting rail and between the 3rd and 4th exhaust ports. The are visible simply by raising the hood and looking at the engine. You should be able to find a cast-in alphanumeric number, possibly one of the following:
C8VE-E
C9VE-A
D0VE-C
D2VE-AA
D3VE-A2A
Or, it may appear similar to one of the above numbers but a little different.
The block casting number is located on the ouside of the engine, at the rear of the cylinder bank, behind the starter motor and reads vertically. There, you should be able to find a cast-in alphanumeric number, possibly one of the following:
C8VE-B
C9VE-B
D0VE-A
D1VE-A2B
D9TE-AB
D2VE-AA heads are little more than door stops and should be replaced, as they are detonation prone and the only open chamber passenger car head. For drag racing, you are better off with C8VE, C9VE, and D0VE closed chamber heads (all of which we have in stock). Intake runner volumes are about 260cc's, 2.08 intake (can go to 2.19/2.25), 1.65 exhaust (1.72/1.755 possible). The early-style heads have supported over 700 hp on naturally aspirated engines and 4-figure hp in blown engines.
All blocks are plenty strong. For a brief description of cylinder block differences, click HERE.
Thank you for the info. I plan on opening these heads up as much as possible, putting about a .650 lift cam in it, single plane intake, 750 Carb. and about a 150-200 shot on it. And then sliding it into a gutted '89 Fox body. And the car will only see the 1/8th mi. w/ no street time. Again, Thank you for your help.
