HI,I need to replace the upper control arm balljoint on my B2500 1998 2WD (coilspring) . Some posts say you can ,just a bit confused. I have had parts sent from usa which look correct but the joint fitted on truck does not appear to have a snap ring fiited? The new part no K8738 has a snap ring.I wondered if i get the old balljoint preesed out if pos, then the new part with snap ring is correct when fitted. The control arm is the round type. Any help greatfully recieved. jez-the-builder.

Welcome to FTE.
Sounds like you may have ordered, or have been sent a lower ball joint, as they have a retainer snap ring.
I just had my coil spring suspension upper & lower "A" arm ball joints replaced last week.
One upper ball joint was a problem to remove, took the tech an hour to get it out, the other upper ball joint & both lower ball joints came right out with a portable "C" type press.
Hi PAWPAW,Thanks for your time.I have 2 upper joints & 2 lower joints + tie rod ends & tie rod end extensions as a full kit sent over from MIAMI FL.Both upper & lower joints have snap rings and look correct but the upper i need to replace worries me that if i get it pressed out that the new one won't fit, as reading the many forum items connected to this seem to differ ?I wondered if i check the diameter of the original item & new one ,maybe take the chance and get it pressed out.Need to take truck to france in 2 weeks to help out a friend.Never imagined changing a part would be so complex although i can't get hold of parts in UK .REGARDS JEZ.
jez the builder - good luck with your rebuild/looking at the same thing myself.
PawPaw - did you do the work yourself or did you take it to a repair shop? I"ve got to have mine done but plan to farm it out to the local tire place that does all our work. It's a '98 4x2 and the uppers and lowers need to be replaced on both sides. What kind of $$ did you spend to get yours done? Trying to get a benchmark for how much the job should run.

Thanks all for your help, The new joint i have is in box marked autopart international code no K8738 (made in china) This is same code as the moog part . I think the joint is correct reading all the posts on FTE ,but the control arm i believe is the original ford/mazda part where i wonder if it will accept the new joint for size ,assuming i can get the old one out ?. I will ring up the ford dealers here tomorrow to see if i can get the complete arm/balljoint as a replacement. If so i will get my balljoint pressed out of arm and see if new fits? if not i will get new complete unit. I will let you all know how it goes and what happens. REGARDS JEZ.
