Ive got a 92 ford ranger supercab 4x4 automatic. Heres the problems im having...To start it off it sliped going into 3rd gear i think then after that it was fine. then it started stickin in reverse like some was holding the truck down while pushing the gas then it would finally break loose and back up..then i finally lost reverse and it slipped badly in drive so i changed out the transmission and put another one in it and to my surprise i was disappointed even more..this one drove in N D OD 2 1 and the reverse would try to spin but would lock up...so i had my original one rebuilt and it only goes in reverse when the tires are off the ground but you have to give it some gas to get it started in reverse....the guy that rebuilt it says he thinks its in the body value but im thinking different...im thinking its in the rear end but if it goes forward no problem and reverse no problem(only if the tires off the ground) its not in the rear end...ive spent 1000 in the last 3 weeks trying to fix this....IF ANYBODY HAS ANY IDEAS PLZ LET ME KNOW IM TIRED OF SEEING A NICE RANGER BE IN THIS POSITION...THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP --MATTHEW
Your transmission "expert" needs to go to school. Or learn how to rebuild a transmission. The A4LD uses a servo and band to lock the rearmost drum for reverse gear. The 'rest' of the stuff should be locked up, IIRC, feeding torque.
Post your problem again in the Transmission section further down in the forum listing and you should get more detailed info.
Most problems are burned clutches/steels, and the input shaft splines getting twisted. The center section seals can be EASILY cut when you are re-assembling, and heaven knows how much symptoms that will cause.
In short, you should get a refund from the builder, and take it to someone with more or better skills.
