I've had so many transmission problem with my '95 and '03. Most of the time I'm cursing my Fords (and the dealer). This time My '03 is still has 20,000 left on the 100,000 ESP and Ford is on the hook for fixing my tranny. The dealer requested a factory rebuilt tranny and Ford will only let them do the minimum repair to the existing tranny, thanks Ford
Anyway, I thought I might share a little story. It's how I came to realize that my '03 with the reverse sensing system is the best vehicly I ever owned.
I'm driving home from work and decide to pull into my favorite 7/11 for a diet coke.
I pull into a fairly empty parking lot and right into a spot directly in front of the store entrance. No other cars are moving in the lot.
I get my Coke and am back out of the store in less than 2 minutes
I'm in front of My explorer and can clearly see behind it, Nothing is behind my explorer.
I get into my explorer and start the engine
I select reverse gear and My RSS starts beeping quickly.
I look in my rear view and still see nothing (and no-one)
I am thinking, What is wrong with this F***king thing now.
I am just about to get out and look behing my car to see what is blocking the sensor.
Right before I get out I see a chiled about 4 or 5 pushing a small toy carriage appear in my side view mirror.
She was too small to appear in my rear view
This whole thing happened in only a few seconds
I took a look around and saw her mother standing at the other end of the lot talking to someone. She never new what almost happened
Without that Reverse Sensing System, I would have killed that little girl
I sat in the car for about 5 minutes before I finally pulled out.
I had thought that the RSS was a waste of money, I am a good parker
Thanks Ford. This is the best vehicle I ever owned

Thats good to hear. I know a guy who backed over his own little girl. He checked his mirrors and saw nothing and started backing. I probably should go any further into the sequence of events. He blames himself, but I know it wasn't his fault. His girl was not there when he got into the car, she was just running by. She died of internal bleeding before they got her to the hospital. I think she was about 20 month when this happened.
Agreed. The Reverse Sensing System has to be one of the greatest safety devices in the Automotive world, The wife has this on her Freestar Van and loves it. I don't know if this was a Ford-First but I think it should be mandatory on all vehicles like seat belts, headrests etc. Nice to hear this was a happy ending.

It doesn't work all of the time. It depends on how tall the kid is and where they're at. It seems to me that anyone who has a kid would know just how un=predictable that kids are and would make sure that he/she knows EXACTLY where thier childern are when backing a car in the vicinty of children or pets.
I could be wrong but Id rather know than depend on a warning device.
