Hi all,
I picked up some seats from an 04 Ranger to go into my 02 Ranger XL. I thought it would be an even swap, but I guess the 04 seats may have been in an extended cab ranger, or maybe even from an explorer. The mounting holes do not line up. From what I have it seems the easiest way to make it work is to swap out the mounting holes by removing the adjusting track but there are mechanical stops in the mounting track I cannot seem to get past.
If anyone know how to remove the sliding mounting track from the seat frame, please explain.
Thanks,
Greg
Guys,
I've searched the forum for help on this. There are many posts on swapping seats, but I can't find any that explain how to change out only the seat tracks. This looks like all I need to do and SHOULD be the easiest way out. Changing the whole seat frame (everything above the seat track) will involve many more parts changes. I'm hoping someone here can explain how to remove the track alone.
There is a screw which keeps the track from sliding too far forward when it hits a rivet in either direction. I unscrew this bolt to clear the rivets, but the bearings in the tracks now hit a punched stop in the track (top and bottom). How do I get past this last barrier?
Thanks for any help.
Greg
You should be able to slide the tracks all the way one direction, take out the bolt holding it to the seat. Slide it all the way the other direction and take out the other bolt then switch the stock tracks to the seats you want to put in.
There should be several mounting holes on the bottom of the seats and the ones that aren't use will have to be tapped to whatever bolt the assembly uses. I put 90' exploder seats in my '88 reg cab and that, plus the inside bucket tracks out a another gen 1, some fabbing and it worked out alrite.
Thanks for the tip, but I was trying to separate the track slider from it's mating guide. It's not possible without serious modification (at least as far as I can tell). I ended up doing as you suggest, removing the seat form the frame. It's a bit more involved, but I got where I wanted to be.
