I am not a big movie guy as I said. I saw Pearl Harbour with my Father-in-law in 2001. He was shot down over Germany in WWII. I saw Open Range in 2003 with my wife when my Grandfather died. So those had more fellings with them than anything. I saw Alien Vs. Predator at the Palace for a dollar (2004 or maybe 2005). Couldn't see much of it as it was so dark. Now I'm really breaking out. I went to the drive in and saw Iron Man early this year. It was an ok movie. My stereo was worse than Chads and I went back to the speaker box. I didn't clean the windshield of Jr. It was kind of cold (for me).
I did break down today and went to see Appaloosa. Don't know if'n folks will like it the way I do. Very good. Best Western I have seen in a long while. Violance and sex of course. Good hats and shootin irons. No 20 shot six shooters or 92' Winchesters just after the Cilvil War. No 300 yard Henry shootin. I give it a 9.873. A must see for adults that don't mind violence or sexual content.
Now I'm done watchin movies in a theater till .........
2001 Pearl Harbour
2003 Open Range
2005 Alien Vs. Predator
2007 Didn't see one so I'll use Iron Man from this year to make up afore it
2009 Appaloosa from today
2011 next time I'll be due to see a movie in a theater.
I do have about 250 movies on hand to keep me busy. So it's not that I don't watch um . I just don't go to theaters to watch um. Now that that's taken care of I can git back to takin naps and such.
I kinda like Jack and don't go to many movies. Based on his expert review though, I might have to go see Appaloosa. Unforgiven is one of my all time favorite movies and I've seen it a number of times.
ive seen all of the star wars movies in theatre and i loved them. my dad started us when i was YOUNG and took us to see them when they were re-made (extra special when my rents were REALLY broke when i was that young)
Matt
p.s. i went and saw batman and pineapple express. Batman was great, pineapple express was better (it was a drug movie, but absolutly hilarious)
To me Appalossa beat Unforgiven. Many of you know that I have and shoot guns that were used back in the 1800's. So when I see a movie like "Undefeated" with John Wayne and Rock Hudson I rate it down. That movie was set right at the end of the Civil War (1865) and had 1873 Colt SAA revolvers and 1892 Winchester rifles in it. Kind of like havin a WWII or Korean War movie with folks shootin M16's. Or like in "American Outlaws" that started out in the civil war. They call up Frank James to make a long range shot with a Henry. The Henry was produced in 1860 and did see a lot of action in the Civil War. But it used a very short cartridge with just a bit over 20 grains of powder. About a third of the powder the single shot rifles used. They were good inside 100 yards and could shoot a lot of rounds fast (compared to a single shot muzzle loader). Not a long range weapon by any means. In "Unforgiven" they made a big deal out of the Spencer rifle. It like the Henry was a short distance rifle. A little more powerful than the Henry (bigger around bullet, couldn't shoot much if any farther but could knock down bigger game) but really not a long range weapon compared to the single shot rifles of the Civil War and the Sharps. Now the "Outlaw Josey Wales" got it right with folks carrying multiple guns. They don't show a lot of misfires though. Real black powder is very dirty and gums up a revolver or lever gun fast. Sometimes you would only be able to shoot 2-3 times. And the black powder and the steel made back in the 1800's was not as consistant as it is to day. So guns back then broke a lot, and misfired a lot and blew up every now and then.
If'n ya like Ed Harris he was really good with Amy Madigan in "Riders of The Purple Sage". If'n yer a Lance Henriksen fan I really like his movie "Gunfighter's Moon"
Talking missfire, in Unforgiven, Eastwood's character has a miss fire with a double barrel shot gun. You don't see that much in any western movie.
Yup, and Gene Hackman told about "two guns" Colt Dragoon blowing up. And that was very true. The Dragoon had a long cyliner and if'n ya put in too much powder or happened to get a batch of "hot" powder they would blow up. But they got the Spencer wrong. And I can see not using real black powder. I mean if'n they did that first shotgun barrel that Clint fired would have smoked up the room so bad the camara couldn't get good pic's. The light bounces off the smoke and you go blind. And that schofield never miss fired. Kind of hard to beleive.
I have a pair of revolvers that shoot .38 Colt cartridges (shorter than .38 special). I have loaded the cartridges with real black powder and used all kinds of lubs, wads, and large lube gruve bullets and the only way I can get them to fire a full cylinder with out locking up is to stuff the front of the cylinders with lube like I do a cap-n-ball.
And my 66 Yellowboy rifle will only go about 40 rounds with out a bit of cleaning. Really starts to fall off in accuracy after about 30 rounds. And I load lube cookies and wads between the bullit and powder. Have ta be careful with that though or the lube will melt and foul the powder.
It weren't easy back in the 1800's. Folks say Wild Bill Hickock would fire and clean and load his revolvers every morning. Just so's he knew the guns would fire if needed and he carried two for a reason.
Jack I thought you went to 310 to Yuma and didn't care for it (just to ad to your movie list)
Carolyn and I try to hit a movie every friday... date night kinda thing. If I am on call, or it doesn't work out we try some other night within the next week. Wesee all the "biggies" but we aslo see things like "Spaceballs" at the cheap theater when they run the. We drove to Concordia to see "Gone with the wind" once. Movies give us a few hours of conversation (after not during the movie)
We rent them from the "$1 DVD ATMs" but now that my company is going to work on them that might devrease some.
we aren't going to be working on the red box any time soon, just the DVD Play ones, which are simple to work on. The red box ones are owned and financed by McDonalds, DVD play is owned by its own co. Blue box is owned by NCR, so you know we won't be working on them.
Oh man! Busted! Yup "310 to Yuma" and "Serinity". So it should be one movie in the theater a year. I did see "Alien Resurrection" in a theater but that was in 97. I did see the original "Star Wars" and the other two with Harrison Ford in theaters. Never did see the the new ones in a theater. And I did see all the "Alien" movies in a theater.
Margaret goes every week to see a movie. And she always wants movie gift certificuts for birthdays and christmas. So I know she dose go at least some of the time.
I had to walk all the way to the back (past the other consession stand) to see Appalossa thursday. I wouldn't mind see'n it again but I won't walk that far ta do so. Not lookin ta go to a theater again anytime soon.
Watches new movies and all my tv shows online doesn't have cable or sat and hardly any money to go to a theater. But love Serenity Saw the 3 originals Star Wars in Theaters and the preequals too.
Watched Get Smart yesterday they did a good modern version of it and didn't turn it into a remake of the TV series I watched growing up. Great for the whole family. Next I plan on watching the new Rambo movie.
