coil spacers

was reading in a four wheel magazine about a new (fj80) toyota land-cruiser that had acheived i think 3 or 4 inches of lift using coil spacers, i guess just a donut-shaped block at the top of the spring, instead of taller springs. do they have those for fords/are they a reasonable option/would they be cheaper than new taller springs?

coil spacers

They might be alittle cheaper if you can find them. I have never seen spacers for old Fords. I'd just get the coils. They aren't very expensive and they have the advantage of greater travel that a spacer can't provide. You have to get new shocks either way so I would get the coils. 6" coils from 4wheel aprts are only like $140 or so delivered. If you want a cheap way to gain 2"-3" take a piece of 2-3" square tubing (at least 1/8" thick preferably 3/16 or 1/4") and weld it to the bottom of your frame in the front and move your spring perches down attaching the bottom bolts to the square tubung you welded on. Even after you buy a dropped pitman arm to correct steering you should still have less than $75 in the job.

"Like a Rock"; on the sides of roads everywhere.

coil spacers

LAST EDITED ON 11-Apr-01 AT 03:37 PM (EST)[p]If you don't want to spend money on new coils (which offcourse are better) and like hanging out in wreckyards look for one off a bigger truck than yours. I used coils from a 2wd f250 to lift my 77 Bronco 4". they bolted right in and cost 10 bucks.

If you didn't build it, its not really yours.
