can i use newer axle (dana 60 or 50 from the 80's) on the 73 4x4 f-250 frame?
did Ford make a twin i beam suspention on newer 250 / 350 4x4?
i like the soft front suspention on my 76 4x4 f-150 but need a stronger truck
to tow and pull loads.
Gai, the only dana 60 that will bolt in without any modification is the '78/'79. The 1980 and newer trucks have a wider spring perches. I believe it increased by 3 or 4 inches. The big problem with trying to modify the perches is that the driver side perch is part of the Differential housing and it was moved outboard to follow the wider springs. kind of hard to move it back inboard. FYI, the dana 60 solid front axle returned to the F-350 in '86, from '80 -'85 all had TTB.Good luck.

Gai, I just realised the previouse post is misleading. It is the distance between the centers of the two springs that increased, not the actual width of the spring.

You might want to measure where the pumpkin is on the axle in relation to the clearance hump on the engine crossmember.
I know that '78-'79 Bronco/F-150 D-44 pumpkins are 4-5 inches off center for the engine crossmember on '80-'96 F-150, and swapping one in necessitates a HUGE lift for clearance.
