Manual steering can still be power assisted!

Had a 2004 Pontiac G6 had a steering issue that turned out there was a recall took it in for repair 2020 no cost, heres the deal it was an electric motor intalled to assist, how dangerous that was if it had gone out totally while driving there would be no steering at all. I later on had a 1966 Ford falcon futura "fancy" it has a power assist ram installed on steering linkage if it went bad you could still continue driving like manual steer without power!
