Volare steering

I have about 90,00 miles on my Volare front clip in my F-1 and do like it but broke the cast aluminum low pressure hose connection and the new steering gear did not come with one and can't order it separately.
I've heard of adapting the GM Saginaw steering to the Volare. Has anyone done it or know anyone that has and what gear was used?
Thanks,
Art

I ran into the same problem some years ago, that assembly for the power steering box was about as rare as hens teeth. I looked all over for one and finally found a few on ebay. Needless to say, once people found out how tough it was to get their hands on these parts the price shot up. Good luck.

I was able to find one at the junkyard. There are tons of cars with that steering box.

I heard the GM pumps put out too much pressure for the mopar steering box so you need to add shims in the pressure valve to reduce the pressure.

Volare steering

Thanks but not looking for a pump. Looking to convert the steering to a GM Saginaw box, not the pump.

It would be good to know if a GM box will work. I wonder if anyone has used the Weedeter rack and pinion setup for the Volare front?

Joe, I did contact Weedeter about their R&P unit...there were some discussions on this topic some time ago but no one stepped forward and admitted to owning one. One of the raps that I heard about their R&P was that the turning radius was significantly widened...unless someone who has firsthand knowledge about the unit all these stories are just that.

I also spoke with Dale a few years ago and he sent me some "installed" pictures. I am not sure that it would fit with my Ford 302 as it sets. Don't really dislike the stock steering [a rebuild from NAPA probably 16-17 years ago. It is slightly "sloppy" at center and I could not adjust it out. It is really fine otherwise.
