That truck is a real beauty and is easily worth what they're asking for it. It has a sharp looking 2-tone combo, too. Unfortunately, with the market for older trucks being down right now, they probably will not be able to get their asking price for it. Unless they're really desperate to sell it, they would be better off holding on to it for awhile and waiting for truck prices to go back up.
It's a Custom. The Custom model never had the tailgate trim panel.
How do you know it's a Custom? I don't see any Custom badges.
Besides, Customs didn't come with Race Track mouldings, upper black vinyl insert mouldings, bumper pads, or wheelcovers.
Customs also had round headlamps, and were price leaders, with rubber floor mats...most were sold to fleets.
With all this equipment, it's at the very least, a Ranger XLT.
This truck is missing the tailgate trim, because it was hit in the rear at some point, the tailgate has been (possibly replaced) repainted, and the rear bumper changed.
The rear step bumper is wrong, it's supposed to be chrome.
I know these trucks pretty well, not only was I a Ford partsman for 35 years, but I bought a 1979 Super Cab Lariat brand new.

My Custom XLT has the tailgate trim strip at the bottom, across where it says FORD and across the part above where the latch handle are, so it could be a Custom and still have these chrome pcs., ya see?.......sorry to 'rain on your parade' mate ...

Customs could be ordered with just about any options that the buyer wanted. Over the years I've seen MANY Customs with 2-tone paint and race-track mouldings. Here is a 1978 F100 Custom 2-tone with race track mouldings:
ALL 1979s had rectangular headlights, whether they were Customs, XLTS, Lariats, etc. That is the correct rear step bumper for the truck. Most Customs had argent gray step bumpers.
I know these trucks pretty well, too. I've owned many of them over the years, and I have restored several of them.

There's no such thing as a Custom XLT.
The Race Track (RT) mouldings only came on the Ranger XLT's and Lariats.
Y'all are looking at trucks that are 30+ years old, so you cannot judge by how they are equipped now.
When the RT mouldings were introduced in 1977, peeps came in and bought all the mouldings, installed them on their Customs, and Rangers.
I don't mean to be an azz hat, but none of y'all were Ford partsmen, prolly none of you worked for Ford.
Very few if any of y'all have parts catalogs, most of y'all have no sales brochures, or dealer facts books.
I was a partsman for 35 years 1962/97. I sold these parts when the trucks were brand new. I bought one of these trucks brand new.
I bought my first old car when I was 11, have owned over 90 Ford vehicles since 1956, over 327 cars/trucks.
John T, in 1979 I was 35 years old, you were 3.
So who has more experience with these trucks, back then or now?
Hey, I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm just saying that I have seen many Customs with racetrack trim and 2-tone paint that looked to be original. Back then, you could go to the dealer an order a truck with just about any options that you wanted. So, it was definitely possible to get a 2-tone Custom with race track mouldings. In fact, I know a guy who has a 1980 Ford F150 Custom that he bought brand-new that has the chrome bodyside mouldings and the "Victoria" 2-tone paint that was offered in the 80s.

I don''t give a hoot about 1980/86 trucks. Didn't like the styling back then (the stubby front end resembles the awful 1977 Courier). Still could care less. Post very little in the 80/86 forum.
So if you know someone that has one a these trucks with that equipment, I have no klew.
But I've always had a thing for 1965/79's, bought a '65, '68, '71, and '79 new, owned a few used ones, also. So I know these trucks pretty darn well, far better than most.
I also know how FoMoCo operates.
Here's my point, you could not go to the dealer and order anything you wanted back then, and you cannot do it now.
The facts books clearly state as the parts catalog does, what was available on what model.
Ford offered different trim lines: Customs, Rangers, Ranger XLT's and Lariats (1978 and later).
If someone wanted a certain truck a certain way, he was sold the model that fit.
But...you could have the dealer install just about anything you wanted.
Here it is 30 years later, the truck may have had 1-2-3-4 or more owners, so you cannot judge how a vehicle is equipped now, and say it's original.
there is badges on the truck, but the pic is too small to zoom in and make out what it says.
80F100man, your in Europe. there might be Custom XLTs over there but none here (US had no such thing).
On my 2006 Crew Cab, I thought it looked a little plain, so I ordered some XLT emblems originally used on '71/72 F100/350's from Green Sales and glued 'em on. I also wanted a unique model name on the tailgate, so I went to my pals Mustang resto shop and bought California Special nameplates that were originally on 1968 Mustangs, snipped off the pins, glued 'em on with 3M double sided tape.
Someone down the road is gonna buy this truck and wonder what the he!! those parts came from.
