Anybody got any pics of this rare black trim? I'm very curious as to what it looks like and what it was available on. If I can get my hands on some, I might look into putting it on my truck.
Hey High Horse I can get you a pic as I know where one is on my route. Just have to take my camera to work. I dont think it is all that rare here in the Denver area as I have seen a lot of trucks with it. Will get back to you when I can get a pic and e-mail it to you as I have no idea how to put it on here.

Good luck! I've been trying for over a week to get Bill (Number Dummy) to show some proof of a black trim even being available as he stated. Literature, picture, something.... I guess I got him mad at me, oh well.
Thanks 1977f250. I just saw a pic on JBG readers rides of some black trim. It was probably painted black, but I was just wondering if this is what it looks like.
well I just looked in my pictures and I have one but the black has faded off it seems like it is smaller than the ranger trim. No for the hard part let me see if I can figer out how to send it to you.

Well hopefully if numberdummy has any info on this subject he will share. I would like to know what years and trim levels to look for this option on.

Without seeing it 1st hand that looks painted by a PO. Don't look to bad either IMO.

High Horse check out Flcracker9 gallery he has the same trim Notice that is is not as tall? as the ranger trim and does not go around the markers lights. I have seen this trim and some of it has a painted? black stripe down the center.

Am I missing something? I see no black on that trim. Looks like just the narrow aluminum trim to me.
Yep, that is the optional trim (1973-1979) that also came standard with Customs and Rangers with the Deluxe Tu-Tone option between 1973-1976.
It is narrower than the one with the vinyl insert, however there is no black painted on this piece, or anything painted on it for that matter.
Now the 1967-72 trucks had a narrow trim piece that had black painted lines. Perhaps that is where the confusion lies? I don't know.
The next trim up from that narrow aluminum piece pictured is the wide trim with vinyl insert. Standard on Ranger XLT.
No offence 81 but I don't believe it came standard on a Custom. AFAIK Customs got no trim unless it was specifically ordered with it or if it had a tu-tone paint job. Standard on a Ranger I might agree with. I have seen this specific trim that is on the truck that I posted. It is shiny aluminum, not black. I'm also well aware of the aluminum trim with the black insert.
There really is no confusion. Number Dummy specifically stated that the molding was black:
The upper side mouldings were available on Customs as an option, but were painted black, they didn't come with vinyl inserts.
If he did not have that "I'm better than you" mentality I could of cared a less about it. But here it is a week and a half later and he has not even stepped up to the plate to make mention of this supposed black trim or the fact that he possibly made a mistake.

I don't mean to be an azz hat, but none of y'all were Ford partsmen, prolly none of you worked for Ford.
Very few if any of y'all have parts catalogs, most of y'all have no sales brochures, or dealer facts books.
I was a partsman for 35 years 1962/97. I sold these parts when the trucks were brand new. I bought one of these trucks brand new.
I bought my first old car when I was 11, have owned over 90 Ford vehicles since 1956, over 327 cars/trucks.
John T, in 1979 I was 35 years old, you were 3.
So who has more experience with these trucks, back then or now?
Way to put John T in his place Bill, you showed him.
So what you're tellin me is there is no such thing as this black trim and it was a hoax the whole time? Sounds like I better get out a few rattle cans...
