I have an 07 XLT with the towing package and the 6 cyl. If I keep it at 1800rpm, change the air filter often, put 38lbs in the tires, and use Amsoil, I get "27.4 mpg. 1800 rpm is about 60 mph. I sold a F250 and bought the Escape. I am very happy with it and I would advise you to buy one. I have pulled a 3200lb enclosed trailer and the mpg went down to 16. Go for it.

05 or better and you won't have any problems. The 2.3 is full of pep and excellent on gas. 26-28.

I was looking on Edmunds.com and the 03 and 04 still seem to have some tranny problems, not as many though. I just dont want her to get burned on an escape.

we have an 03 Escape, no major problems yet thank god...90k miles, but we have changed the tranny fluid 3x so far...I'm sure it helps. Good vehicle in the snowy New England winters soon upon us.

I would recommend. We have the 3.0L V6, and ours still has the switch on the dash to engage 4x4. We would buy another Escape when the time comes...although the Mrs. likes the Ford Edge as well.

As I've told others with fluid changes you'll have no problems with the cd4e. I don't recall one case where a cd4e failed with fluid changes unless it was fresh off the assembly line. The Escape has drain plug for trans use it wisely.

I had to work on an Escape the other day at the shop (Misfire due to someone washing the engine), but when I test drove it it felt like a nice comfortable SUV to drive. I would recommend it.
