I think my trow-out bears is about gone. I figure while the tranny is out I will replace the clutch as well. Which clutch should I go with. I really don't want to replace the flywheel but I will if I get a better clutch at a good price.
valair clutches. those guys have some quality stock, and performance oriented clutches at great prices. alot of the guys over in the OBS forum are running valair clutches, and have not had any problems with them.
then there is also south bend clutches, which are going to be of the same quality as valair, but somewhat more expensive.
Southbend and Luk are the popular choices. Both should offer you a softer pedal. If you're planning on adding power later, you might look at Southbend since they have some upgraded clutches designed for higher hp. Also make sure you get the kevlar pilot bushing when you're in there changing things out.

I just looked at the Valair website. I think I'm going to go with one of their clutches. Either the organic stock replacement with HD hub or the Kevlar/Ceramic. The organis is rated higher than the output I ever expect from my truck but a Kevlar/Ceramic is a better towing clutch and lasts longer. (So they say)
We put a Southbend in my Son's truck. It was Con OFE - Using 1 Performance Organic & 1 Feramic Facing. It came with a new fly wheel. Very soft clutch, but hasn't tried to slip once.
Ok.... Still doing some research on which clutch I'm going with. The noises from the throw-out bearing are less often now but when they are there they are loud. I have also has some trouble with getting the tranny in gear a few times. I am thinking that there is a good possibility that the clutch fingers might be damaged.
I was thinking I would go witht he Valair clutch but they do not some with a flywheel and I have decided I should just do the flywheel too.
So my question is what is the favorite around here. The standard dual mass or upgrade to a single mass?
Favorite is gonna be the sb products. I think I will go ahead and give the valair a try. That is after I talk to the guy (Dan?) and get the scoop. I plan on doing this in a couple weeks.
I have never tried installing a clutch before...so I will wait for the Bro in law (mechanic) to get back from vacation to show me the ropes, hence the couple weeks.
Darin, if you have a clutch picked out from Valair that you like, call Dan and tell him Cody from Death Row Diesel sent you and he'll make the price a whole lot sweeter. Talk to him about your questions about the flywheel. He's a super cool guy to talk to, and I guarentee he'll answer all you questions.
