You cannot tap into the trans temp sensor for an aftermarket gauge. If you try neither the gauge nor the PCM will work right. What you can do is use a tool that can read the OBDII data stream. The trans temp is there. Engine temps are there, too.

I understand the oil pressure sensor is an on/off sensor. It says there is no oil pressure below a certain (low) pressure, and says everything is fine if the pressure is above that.

Usually the factory sensor is within about 10F of the temperature at the test port. It can be higher or lower depending on conditions.

Thats not what I was asking. I was trying to figure out what ford used for sensors for the various parameters. I have a dashdaq coming I was just wondering what gauges could be considered "reliable" via the computer.

Wow, I didn't think this thread was going to last long, but there's alot of great information.

I just found out that my head gaskets are wasted and my EGR cooler is gone. I found a dealership that is going to install my studs and a block off plate to the EGR cooler. That should end my problems in the future.

Anything else I need to do to bulletproof this truck while the cab is coming off?

Thanks

Anybody want to buy a Mag-Hytec pan in great condition?

I've seen a slight lowering of temps after installing a Dieselsite remote trans filter outside of the frame rail on the passenger side, though my measurements are not scientific and may just be wishful thinking. I installed it for the extra filtration with no expectation of any temperature differences.

I've never seen the trans temp on mine above 220, and only touched 220 on a 100+ August day towing 30 to 50 mph up a steep, winding side road bypassing the Grapevine.

Hi,

Just installed a dieselsite external trans filter and got my trans up to 160 on the freeway but never above 170. cooled down to 158 after leaving the xway. I put my hand on the filter expecting to feel it hot but it was actually cold????? Outside temp is 50 deg and the run lasted about 45 min. Is the cooler that good or is there another problem?

The Dieselsite tech said that it was normal and if I was still concerned pull the return line off and start the engine. Said it will fill a qt in15 sec. I really don't want to do this I just want to see what is normal,

Thanks
