Methanol Injection

I have a 1996 350 7.3L had some thoughts of methanol injection. Does anyone have any recommendation on that also does anyone have a setup for a homemade setup?

Couple questions first....What is your goal? power? cooling? And what mods do you have and how do you use your truck?

Now to answer you question as best I can with out that info. Straight methanol injection would destroy your engine in short order since Methanol is a fuel. You would have no control of when ignition would take place. Normally the system is a mix of water and methanol. Mostly water. like 70% water and 30% methanol, the lower the methanol % the safer you will be (ie, you won't window the block!) 100% water is really the way to go. These systems are more for cooling down the EGT's and charge air to use the power that is already there just not usable without abusing your engine.

Now can you make a kit yourself. Yes but if you get it wrong you will hydro lock (destroy) you engine. You have to have the pressure to atomize the water, the correct size nozzles, a control system that activates on boost or EGT, safe guards against siphoning when the truck is off or the system is inactive. I believe its much better to just spend the $400 to buy a kit.

Search ebay for water injection. Snow Performance had plenty of kits on there. Lots of options and lots of places to get them.

you can run straight water. The bottle/tanks are on the small side. Mainly depends on who much the system is used in towing or daily driving. I would want at least 5 gallons for regular use if not more. Also remember winter usage will be tough. methanol can be used to increase freeze temps. BTW windshield washer fluid is mainly water and methanol.

well i mainly use my truck as a daily driver. i have changed the down tube and eliminated the resonator. it is chipped along with the normal compliment of gauges. I would like to obtain power along with the cooling of the egts while towing. I am looking to do the mixture or straight h2o.
