boost gauge

hey i had an autometer boost gauge installed 3 or months ago and was wondering when it gets over like 15 to 20 psi of boost the needle on the gauge starts to bounce and at 28 psi of boost the needle bounces back violently but how come the stock ford one doesnt bonce back and forth when you have 20 or 25 psi boost on the stock one it holds at that psi but the aftermarket needle will bounce back and forth untill im under 15 psi then it doesnt bounce back and forth

It's probably due to the line that they tapped into to add the boost gauge.

If you tap and put a fitting into the intake elbow or if you get an Accufab intake elbow which has a fitting in it, then you will have a smooth reading!!!

You should install the fitting in the elbow like GregsSD said then you will not have anymore problems.

thats where i wanted it but they put it by the firewall, also when they put my boost gauge in they installed the pyro and tapped it into my performance exhaust (post turbo), and i wanted in my exhaust manifold (pre turbo), now i cant even change in due to there will be a hole in my down pipe by the turbo. Also in that pic what is that silver thing with the red wires coming out of it

It's an oil filter billet cap with an oil temp sender. Also you can purchase a new boost tube and re-run it yourself...at least you can make the turbo right. Get another EGT gauge and then you will have PRE and POST!!! That really sucks when a shop doesn't follow instructions when doing installs.

Dose the oil temperature sender un-plug when you change the filter?

Also do all boost gages need live pressure in the cab or do they have isolators for them? I know that 25-35 lbs. isn't alot but I'm not sure I like the idea of any live pressure in the cab.

You can get the billet cap at Elite Diesel and Diesel Manor. I really like having Water and Oil temp. I need an EGT gauge.... Christmas I hope!!

Yes, the plug is inside the split loom tubing. Very easy to disconnect. Oil changes are no problem at all.

The boost tube runs directly from the elbow to the gauge so it's live pressure. I've never seen one with an isolator. I'm not worried about the tubing coming loose, I have all the electrical wires zip tied around it so if it did break loose it's not going anywhere.

No worries, even if the line would break (very doubtfull, only if it's run poorly and rubs through) it's a max of 30lbs or less.

You can hold 100psi of air back with your thumb........if it's a mechanical oil psi/temp guage, then you can worry.

I too have the same problem with the needle bouncing above 15 psi. exception being that I have the Intake Elbow tapped. I have a straight fitting in it now. Would putting a 90* in make a difference? Also does the location of the fitting matter? I did not do it exactly like Diesel Manor. If the intake of the elbow was 12 o'clock then I drilled and tapped at the 7 o'clock position. Like the example below.

I have the improved stock elbow not the one pictured. What else would cause the needle to bounce above 15 psi. I was thinking maybe a leak but I would think you would see that before 15 psi. Any help is welcome.
