I've learned through hard experience that permatex and o-rings do not make good company.
Use instead on the cleaned and prepped surfaces a very thin coating of silicone grease. (NAPA part # 765-1351) Apply only enough to make the surface look wet with no blobs or buildup.
I've used that method for 20 years now and nothing ever leaks for years afterward. YEARS.
I would do what Dan said here..I know if I ever have to again, I will...
i thought we could use both types?? i dont have a 2 piece water pump..its all one unit...
Not mine, and it still has the factory original pump.
The lower hose flange is removable from the water pump and it is sealed with a skinny little o-ring that sprang a leak a while back. Fixed that, hmmm, about three years ago now, I think.
