Does any one know of a chip or a programmer that will work on my 1997 F350 7.5L with the OBD1. I purchased a superchips 1715 only to find that my truck dont have an OBD2. Thanks for any input. Rick
There are lots of different ways to get power without using a chip. Free-flowing exhaust is a big one. A speed density friendly cam will also wake up a lot of power.
As Andy stated, there is no magic pill for a naturally aspirated gasoline engine to boost HP, the tuners are really only good for turbo motors in this regard, though they do afford some transmission adjustments on OBD-2 vehicles.
The route to more power on the old motors is simple... let her breath. The best place to start on a big block is with the exhaust, drop the WHOLE thing from the heads back and install headers and a big single or duals, the computer will adjust to this all on it's own.
MAF 7.5's are mod friendly. The speed density 7.5L is not. Exhaust mods and a good air filter help. Also if you us a smaller clutch fan it makes a noticable power increase, personal experience. The '97 F250 w/460 I used to have I had to use a smaller clutch fan for a little while till I got the correct size. Once I put the right one on I noticed a considerable power loss. Smaller unit never caused any overheating problems.
