The early Fords did not have a vin tag on them anywhere, however the door tag is a similar number to the Vin.
As well, the old vins had less numbers in them than the new cars.
Around here you have to make an affidavid that says where you got the car and have a bill of sale, plus a statement saying it's not stolen, then get a local Justice of the Peace or judge to sign it.
Then take it to the liscensing office to get them to issue a new number and ownership.
South Carolina cars are a pain because they did'nt used to require a title at all and I won't buy a car for export from there, almost impossible to get a clear title.
Check with your local liscense office and see what they require, don't accept a negetive answer at first because more often than not the folks in the office don't know the rules or can't be bothered.

Ford car VIN's are 11 digits thru 1979, 17 digits 1980 thru today.
The VIN 'tag' aka VIN "label" is found on the left front corner of the dash, visble thru the windshield.
This first occured in 1967, and was mandated by the US Gov't. Every vehicle sold in the US has to have that VIN 'tag' in that location.

Good info, BUT, we are talking about a 1963 and there is no vin tag on them.
Ford did not use a vin tag at that time, I have three in my yard and have owned 6 total, no vin tags period.

Ford did not use a vin tag at that time. I am well aware of that.

There weren't any on the 30 + 1962/64 Galaxies I've owned, and none on the present two '63's. Not on my '65 pickup, either.

Based on other reading, supposedly that same number is stamped down by the rear of the doghouse. Remember that the doors can easily be replaced and those plates can be popped off with little effort and a thin bladed putty knife.

I just recently bought a '63 as well... and that number is the number that Michigan used as the VIN on my Falcon Club Wagon.
