Hello everybody I'm new to this forum and need some help with my latest project - 1963 F100 Stepside
I need to know what the numbers the numbers on my VIN plate mean.
F01CN381214
114 L F100 81A A 12
5000 135 3800 251680
The plate has been painted but the numbers are visible.
Thank you in advance
I can get pretty close for you. Number Dummy or someone else will catch any mistakes. First of all, you transposed the first two numbers - it should read F10 not F01. So F10 = F100 two wheel drive truck, C = 292 CI 2 bbl V8 engine, N = built at Norfolk, Virginia, and 381214 = built in February, 1963. 114 = your wheelbase in inches, L = Holly Green exterior color, F100 = F100 truck with 5000 # gross vehicle weight, 81A = standard cab with medium green crush vinyl and medium green rib vinyl upholstery (actually, that's a '64 description as I don't have one for '63), A = 3 speed medium duty manual transmission, 12 = 3.89 axle ratio in a Ford 9 inch non-limited slip differential, 5000 = gross vehicle weight in pounds, 135 = NET horsepower rating and 3800 = the RPMs where it is achieved, and DSO 251680 = Domestic Special Order from a dealer in Richmond, Virginia. That's what the 25 part of it means. Records no longer exist to tell what the 1680 means. This decode only tells you how your truck left the factory 49 years ago; there's no guarantee someone hasn't made some changes to it since then. Hope this helps!
