If I was you I'd try and just go talk directly to a tech and get him to do it while he's working on another truck and just slip him something for his troubles, usually the service writers won't allow you to book it in just to have an updated flash, they will want problems with the truck and have to keep it for diagnosing. I'm out of warranty so I always just talk to my tech and he usually helps me out for nothing.
Mine goes in Mon. I made the appointment yest. when we picked up the wifes Ex with a freshly rebuilt tranny at 42k, and $100- thank goodness we opted for the ext. warranty. The service mgr seemed fine just doing that, but if they take my ext. aftermarket warranty they will be fixing the a/c line that I still haven't fixed and the "start in neutral" I have been putting up with since it won't come out of Park while the engine is running. Wish me luck! The ONLY reason I'm doing the reflash is hopefully it helps with the cold starts, as it stumbles and misses like previously described by Jim C and PowerstrokeHD. They must not be very busy there, as after I made sure they had a certified master diesel tech there I asked if I could make an appt he said " How about Monday?" Giddy-up!
Well, got the new flash, seems to run much better when cold as I was told. The only issue is that when I start it, it will run for about 20 seconds then shut off. It has done this like 3x now, and after I restart it, it runs fine. What gives with that?
i had mine reflashed, it helped a lot with cold starts , day/night diference, no hesitating, but i didnt have problem like you Tim, i would have tem check it out, maybe reflash it again....
Yeah, if it keeps up I'll take it back. They seem pretty cool, didn't say anything about the stacks and lack of cat/muffler. Couldn't duplicate the problem I have with it not coming out of Park while running, I suggested they pull it out of their shop with the FLAT concrete floor, lol. No luck. Oh well
If you hear a buzz /clicking sound AFTER you turn the key off, you have the "buzz" flash, and the newest one (Ind. Heat flash) you won't hear anything after you turn off the key.
