fuel pump not connecting inside engine problem??
I installed the carter fuel pump--but now have no fuel still. I even ran a hose to a can of gas to see if anything was plugged. The p.o. is coming tomorrow with another 53. Maybe he can help. I read the manual last night and N.D. IS right--it runs off the cam lobe. I still have the electric fuel pump in case. I am getting a little tired of figuring 6 volt
On the coil, which wires go to pos and neg. when old coil says dist. and battery? Sounds stupid but I need to know if I hooked them up backwards.....thanks --Bill

The cam lobe the fuel pump runs off of is worn.
This is a very common problem with 223 engines.
You can buy a fuel pump block off plate anywhere. The same one was used on: all the OHV I-6's, Y blocks, and damn near everything else except for 351C/351M and 400 engines.
I can't recall what wires go where. But we both know someone who does: Jon Myer = Myers Studebaker Parts, located in good 'ol Duncan Falls, OH.
Jon was a Ford line mechanic at Slick (yes, Slick) Ford in Venice, CA many moons ago.
Thanks guys!! ole John Myers is a good buddy now,and have bought alot from him and his wife. I think the electric pump is going to get installed today and will let you know when she starts. The other 53 comes any minute now,and I feel like I am getting a brand new truck--haha!! but with 55 yrs of neglect...haha!! Bill
