OK--Have the fuel pump here on my table and the numbers are 4208 143k E@
iT IS MADE IN USA and the po welded a tab on the end to try to hit the eccentric--
HAS TO BE WRONG YR. ENGINE!!
I am heading to my napa first to see if they have 1 with a longer shaft.....wife wishes I could get 1 too.....LOL Will let you know in a bit....will buy a new battery too.....Bill
My 52 has a later model 223 6 in it also. I went to AutoZone and got a pump for a 1956 Ford F100 and it worked. My truck also had a bad rubber gas line that would collaspe when the pump sucked and stop the flow of gas. Might want to try a small can of gas with a fresh piece of hose from it to your pump before hooking up to the fuel line and tank. Just a thought.
Good luck.

While not an absolute certainty of what year the engine is...
Ford changed the valve cover design in 1960, and changed the head in the process, what does your's look like?
On the 1952/59 engines, the valve cover is held on by two acorn nuts that screw to two studs that poke thru the top of the valve cover (similar to what the Y blocks use).
The 1960/64 valve cover uses 8 5/16" bolts that go around the perimeter of the valve cover to bolt it to the head.
N.D.--YOU ARE AMAZING,MAN!!! My engine has 8 bolts around the perimeter of the valve cover. Also the dr. side below dipstick tube shows the nos.--3024 3
Next to that it shows---C3AE--6015 AC
So this is a 223 6 cylinder and between yrs 1960-64 and has the nos. stamped as shown above. I went to napa and no luck--I will call the guys N.D. gave me as soon as someone can tell me what these nos mean.....thanks a million guys!!
I am hoping to drive it tomorrow to a local car show if the carb is any good, and it will isle and it turns over great---got new 6 volt battery and did some sanding on it today also. My other 53 is coming Friday--and the po is delivering it too.....hope he flips out when he sees it running!!! haha.....Bill

C3AE-6015-AC = Bare block casting number = 1963 passenger car 223, 1963/64 F Series truck 223.
Cars didn't use 223's after 1963, trucks after 1964.
What type of 223 fuel pump do you need? With or without a vacuum pump?
Lemme know, I'll try and find the correct one that matches the engine you have.
The two fuel pump part numbers I listed in post #14 were NOT used after 1954!
This is prolly the reason a PO welded a tab on the old pump, so it would work on this later engine.
I think a normal pump is ok---the vacuum pump is for --what---the wipers? YES I will take whatever I can get......thanks Bill

NOTE to fellow members who may not have read all the posts in this thread: While Bill has a 1953 F100, the engine is from a 1963/64 truck, or 1963 car.
Thanks N.D.--I will call and get one asap. I am really concerned about the 6 volt. It is real weird and will be something to get used to. My other 53 f100 is coming in the morning. I organized the shop all day today and made room for this one. It is a fancy 53 with all the toys. It is rusty but complete -but has a yblock in it. I do not really need another truck-but 500 bucks talked me into it.
I am really in your debt Bill----thank you--Bill

I got my fuel pump today--and installed it--and I felt inside engine block--and feel no eccentric--just the cam lobe. I think!! Anyway no nothing!! I am charging battery and will try in the morning. 6VOLT -does it turn over slower? I may have some fuses blown and ? Anyway--it cranks slowly and no gas as of yet. Bill

Battery (and the starter) cables are thicker on 6 volt systems than they are on 12 volt systems.
You do not want to use the same thin cables on a 6 volt battery as you do on a 12.
The starter may also be dragging, usually caused by either worn brushes (available separate), or a burned or badly gummed up armature.
Sometimes, you can remove the starter, soak it in a cleaner, that will maybe solve the slow cranking.
There is no fuel pump eccentric on these engines, the fuel pump runs off the camshaft.
I installed the carter fuel pump--but now have no fuel still. I even ran a hose to a can of gas to see if anything was plugged. The p.o. is coming tomorrow with another 53. Maybe he can help. I read the manual last night and N.D. IS right--it runs off the cam lobe. I still have the electric fuel pump in case. I am getting a little tired of figuring 6 volt
On the coil, which wires go to pos and neg. when old coil says dist. and battery? Sounds stupid but I need to know if I hooked them up backwards.....thanks --Bill
