I believe both are just about equal with Pros and Cons for either one. I chose Offenhauser for the price and a bit of nostalgia. Clifford has one very important detail...it is convienently water heated. Price isn't much different if I remember right although I often wonder why I see more Offys on eBay than Clifford.

I'd probably go with Clifford the next time around.

Missing one key bit of info....whats the purpose of the vehicle?

offenhauser DP---->street/mild stock
offenhauser C----->hot street/strip

The clifford intake requires an adapter to be used, unlike the offy, so you can go from a small 2/4 bbl, all the way to a large 4bbl. Same goes for cliffords dual carb intakes. So the cfm capability should compliment your engines requirements.

The difference between a small cfm carb and the clifford vs the offenhauser DP, may be minimal, although, the unique port design of the offenhauser DP, should in theory be more ideal for street/mild stock engines.

As far as, quality of material, they both about the same, only complaints youll get are the occasional broken flange on either, which is likely due to improper installation, otherwise, doesnt matter.

Just remember if you live in a cold climate or area where the temps drop below freezing, carb icing and the inline six is real, youll need to come up with something for the offenhauser, the clifford can be purchased with a cast cavity that allows coolant flow (WH).

Would an electric engine block heater do the job?

I doubt it.

Youll notice the intake just sticks out on the six banger. It will dissipate heat more easily than it will absorb when its cool and in operation, which leads to a cold carb, which leads to ice developing, which translates to poor to no function. You can get a plate that looks like a carb spacer, which has an in and out for coolant connection. Simple and easy. Try a search. I think this was mentioned on fordsix recently.

It was once suggested to me to make a bonnet, that laid over the carb inlet and basically wrapped around the exhaust manifold/headers...seems like a pain in the butt to me.

The Offy was designed to bolt to the stock exhaust for a hot spot in the intake. Some make a plate plumbed with hose barbs to route hot water via the heater hoses that bolts to the bottom of the Offy intake or use a water heated spacer from a 60's V8 Ford. The Offy is plumbed with vacuum outlets, the Clifford is not. The Clifford is plumbed for water heat.

But which is best is purely subjective and speculative and there is no definitive answer. It's a matter of preference.

Examples of what can be done for water heat for the intake.

As long as it doesn't make my Christmas tablecloth come out-

I fought against carb icing with my Offy for a while, I was running a 2BBL so I got a heated spacer, then wrecked the truck so didn't fix the problem.

Between the Offenhauser and Clifford, I'd go with the Offenhauser just because they are a lot cheaper, and function just as well.

So an Offenhauser bolts up with the stock exhaust manifolds and the Clifford does not? Definitely useful information for those (like myself) not planning on using headers.

He meant to use the exhaust manifolds heat. Both intakes can be used with the carb or efi exh manifolds/ headers.

The reason I ask is because Clifford's site specifically states that it does not work with the stock exhaust manifold, which would lead me to assume only headers.

If I'm going to go with one, I'm not getting headers, so was wondering if the Offenhauser version does work with stock.

That's the stock log exhaust manifold the Offy will bolt with and the Clifford will not. Headers or EFI exhaust manifolds are fine.
