Trac-lok ID

I bought a bronco with a new trac lok in a box. Need to know if it's for the dana 30 front or the 9" rear. Any easy way to tell? It's got 10 bolt holes for the ring gear.

Both the 9" and the Dana 30 have 10 ring gear bolts. Go figure huh. Thats the kind of luck I have.
Now the spline count is different, and the 9 inch regardless of which will have more splines.
The D30 also has a small 7.2" ring gear, and the 9 inch ford has,,,,(dramatic pause) a 9 inch ring gear.
Now the Dana only uses 3/8" bolts to reatin the ring gear, and the 9 incher uses 7/16" fasteners, so the bolt holes will be different sizes from carrier to carrier.
This is not difficult to figure out, and hopefully you have the information you need to get this figured out.
Good luck

Thanks, I think that will give me enough to go on. If not I shouldn't be playing with big boy toys.

Well it ends up being for the front dana 30. Hopefully the PO already installed one in the rear. I'll jack it up tomorrow to find out. Thanks for the help.

Sure, no problem. Did the clues add up?
What was the determining factors that helped you determine that it was for the D30?
