Well phase 2 of my current round of projects was finished yesterday afternoon. I installed the ESE Eliminator. The E4OD/4R100 transmissions have a PCM control line pressure system called the EPC (electronic pressure control). Its a decent system for a stock truck and allows for a chip to increase line pressure for firmer shifts but its also a flawed system at time. The ESE kits allows you to turn the EPC system into a RPM controlled line pressure system like older transmission (think C6).
The kits runs about $100 and can be purchased here ESE Eliminator
The kit can be installed on an existing build or on a rebuild of the transmission. There are some spring to be installed in the pump body but its not needed if the transmission is not out of the truck.
The install took me about 5 hours. I could do it much quicker now that I know what I am doing. The kits requires removing the Accumulator and valve bodies as well as the solenoid pack and separator plate (careful 8 or 9 check ***** to loose here!). The solenoid pack is modded to install a larger resistor to trick the PCM so it won't throw any codes and the accumulator body is modded with different springs and a hole drilled in each end cap.
The reason the separator plate needs to be removed is to install a "VO" (don't know what that stands for) in place of the EPC check valve. Removing the separator plate was the one thing I really had to get myself worked up for cause I knew what would happen if I dropped or lost any of those check *****!
Anyway the kit was complete and not too bad to install but the instruction and kit are meant for transmission builders so it lacked sufficient instructions for the average DIY'er.
The shift seem good but I do have some tweaking to do once I get my TW chip this week. I would like to soften 1 shift and make one a little harder. All in all its a great kit and so far I like it. Though I didn't like the pile of OD clutch material in my pan!! Might have a transmission rebuild how to thread soon.
I should clarify something about the resistor that is put in the solenoid pack. It not so much to trick the PCM as it is to make the PCM think it still has control over liner pressure even though it doesn't. Ok that is still tricking it but with out doing that you would have a code set all the time.

How about it mimics a working eps solenoid. (its a power resistor)
The power resistor allows for the pass of self test and operating loads
(resistance) the pcm will see.
cool. didn't know that this was out there! seems like a good mod to do. seems to me that controlling line pressure by rpm would be much better than doing it by pcm. But i own a manual and don't know a dang thing about autos so idk. LoL. good job tim!!
I have been considering getting the ESE for some time now and had some questions for you.
Does the ESE change the shift points of the Tranny? Are the shifts more firm now that it is in? Does it work with The Cure that you already had installed. Describe everything you notice different now that you have it in.

Does the ESE change the shift points of the Tranny? No, The PCM/Chip still control shift points. The ESE kit only changes line pressure and shift feel.
Are the shifts more firm now that it is in? Yes they are much more firm.
Does it work with The Cure that you already had installed? Yes the ESE works just fine with The Cure.
Describe everything you notice different now that you have it in.
Thanks,
Reek
The ESE kit is like a sonnax shift kit but it also adds the extra's of doing away with the EPC system. As far as how the shifts feel, They feel great. 2-3 is the only one I might mess with at this point. When the TC locks before the 2-3 shift, that shift is harsh. But its perfect if the TC isn't locked. So I will have to wait until the end of this week when my TONY WILDMAN!!!! chip arrives via UPS. I won't make any changes until I get Tony's magic in there.
