I'm new to the board and was reading all the posts on the door crack problems which I haven't heard of before. They seem to leave out this problem on the F150 reviews I've been reading online and don't mention this problem on the Recall List either.

I'm going to look at a 1998 XLT Offroad w/5.4 tonight, now I know what to look for!

Steve, Welcome to the group! Boy I would hate to buy a used truck only to find out the doors crack and Iam stuck with it...
I did not see any recal info either BUT ..Many have reported it
A Good body man can do a good temp fix i guess. Maby a Bumper to Bumper policy is worth it...

I wonder if it's just a geographical thing. My friend's dad is part-owner of a Ford dealer, so I get all the good info. I have yet to see one in my area that has these cracks. I've seen them on several trucks with upper mileage.

Ford was supposed to have the cracks and the piston slap corrected by the end of the 1999 model year.
