I have been havoing problems with getting my truck started. It is a 1997 f150 ext. cab, 4.6, 178,000. It keeps blowing the starter relay fuse when I turn the key to the start position. I turned the key to run, and jumped across the solenoid, and the truck started just fine. Does any one know what I should do next? Every day I can't drive it, is a day my friends with chevrolets pick on me. Please help so I can once again defend my FORD.............
Check your positve starter wire from the sol. down to the starter to make sure that there is no bare wire touching the frame and grounding it out. This will cause your fuse every time you turn the truck to the actual start position.

OK when you jumped the solonoid you went through your hot wire to your starter so it can not be that. I would take a look at your ignition switch. Probably in the wiring from sw to solonoid or the switch it self.
I did put a new solenoid on the truck... So, I will trace the wiring from the switch to the solenoid. If it is bad, maybe a new ignition switch, I'll let you know. Thanks immensely for the help!
If I understand your last post you now have it starting but are not sure if the problem is going to return? If you need more info ask, I have wiring diagrams.
