Well now that my very good friend and diesel mechanic is mad at me and all my buddys on here are i got a problem this evening. I had my front end off today messing around painted the bumper and grille and all (will post pics at a later time) buddy used a high heat paint and put a light coat on the ac condenser thingy, i have no idea why, he told me he did after the fact.
Well when I get to my gfs about 15 minutes away steam is comming out of the hood and a light white smoke i noticed while i was backing up. open the hood and the steam is comming from passangerside back were the turbo is but more to the side. i look under the truck and there is a few oil spots on tire valve cover axle ect. not major, truck ran fine. oil filler neck seemed a lil lose but i really dont think it was that.
I know everyone is mad at me but could you please possibly help me out? I have no idea what to do, kris is mad at me so I cant even get his opinion...if you need anymore details let me know and I will answer the best i can, thanks so much guys and yes.....sorry!
I dont think the paint is at fault here. just a small amount of oil it sounds like to me.
I cant be mad at someone I have never meet.
Dont worry people cant stay mad forever, they will get over it hopefully.
Kenny, I'd make sure the people who your apology is directed see it, including sending them a PM to apologize. You've seen your motor out of the truck, so you should have a basic understanding of all the parts.
Did you do anything else besides some painting? What does the smoke smell like? If you get paint or any other liquid on parts of the engine it will smoke as it burns off. If you have an oil leak, it should be easy enough to find on a new engine. Get a flashlight and start by checking the valley. If necessary, grab an inspection mirror and have a look around for the source of the oil.
I must have missed some thing here but I'm not mad at ya..you saved my butt and I thank you deeply for that... do what's said above..but is it possible the friend got paint on some hot motor parts and its just burning off ??? i hope he went very light with the high heat paint... it could insulate the condenser and not allow it to cool like it should resulting in a not quite so cold air in the cab...
I've seen this many times: A small pinhole in a hose sprays coolant on something hot and the steam starts to billow.
It can be a foot away from what appears to be the problem, but in reality, the pinhole is spraying the coolant from somewhere else.
Can someone help me out on the routing of the coolant lines? The coolant resivour is empty and it may very well be coolant on the motor and not oil. I would like to check for holes and see if the hoses are touching anything but i am not sure where alll the coolant lines run...
does coolant kinda have the same look as oil..like always wet?
