Right now I have to man. push and pull the windows up and down , came that way , both motors work up and down and both have been replaced by p/o but dont roll the windows at all , anybody have a fix for this , and both window regulators look to be in good shape and all parts move freely - ? or how hard is it to switch to man. rollers , Thanks
check and make sure that u've got proper voltage to the motors. if they're not getting the necessary voltage, or current for that matter, then they won't be able to produce high enough torque to operate.
u got to remember that window motors are shunt wound motors and as such, they're a low torque electrical motor the way it is. if everything moves freely on the tracks and rollers, that is where i would begin.
When you try to bring the window up and it stops does the motor stop or can you hear it running,if it still is running your torque pins could be shot although most of the time it will go down easy.
you say that the rack moves good have you tried to remove the motor and raise and lower the window by hand, maybe the window track needs to be adjusted out a little.
Hey guys , Snowman , I did check to see they were both getting the right juice and I assume they are being at 12 volts with a small draw when I hit the switch , They try to jump out of your hand while out of the door and they both do the same thing ,, Glenfordx4 , I guess everything is there , with the motors out they both have a steel gear attached to them and bolt into a fixed position with 3 screws , are they adjustable ? They both move down in spurts only all the way by hand and not up at all but they are spinning and clicking when in either direction , Thanks guys..
hhmmm...got proper voltage and it moves in spurts eh? if everything is adjusted properly, then i would try to lube everything up good and proper like...still sounds to me like something is binding, probably something small that could be easily overlooked maybe...
Did you open up the gear housing it sounds to me like your torque pins are shot, you can get them at the auto parts store for $6-$8 a set.
The torque pins are three little plastic cylinders that fit in the center of the drive gear and over time they crumble and the motor will run but the window won't go up or down right, you should check them if you have the motors out.
snowman all is clean and lubed well , after checking voltage that was my next to do , glenford , with the motor out are the pins you are talking about under the metal gear ? , thanks
Yes you have to remove the cover on the drive gear and lift the gear out if they are shot you will find a bunch of plastic that used to be the pins,It is a easy repair the hard part is getting the motor out.
To gain access to the motor/gearbox you can prop up the window and remove the whole lift assy. by drilling out the mounting rivets. Or, you can drill 1/2" holes to gain access to the motor/gearbox mounting screws and remove that only using a 1/4" drive socket of the appropriate size (5/16" I think). There are pre-punched dimples in the door inner sheet metal for starting the drill bit in the proper location.
