So once I get all the decals and stripes off my F250, I'm going to be left with a whole lot of brown truck. To avoid looking like a giant ***** of **** I'm planning to paint the roof white.
Was this offered as a factory option? If so, would I need any trim pieces to do this properly (as stock)? I've seen trucks with a piece of chrome trim that extends along the back of the cab from drip rail bottom to drip rail bottom. Where can I get this piece?
Thanks for the help and if you've got any pictures of dentsides with white (or any color other than the rest of the body) roofs, post them up.
its a metallic brown, not too sure which brown exactly, trying to figure that out. I really like the color but roof paint isn't in the best shape. The rest of the truck is nice and shiny but the roof is pretty dull and faded and would look much better with a good coat of white..
check my link on [anyone interested in dually fenders] i do not know how to set up my gallery.i have a picture of my short bed two toned. i will be putting trim on as you said. i think it completes the two tone. i am sorry for the extra photos,i do not know a lot about computers and am happy to be able to even show pictures.
Color options for that year are listed on the previous page of the brochure.
I'm with UT--I love the brown. Mostly because of the truck I grew up with. The brown with the thin orange pin stripe is shown in a photo in this brochrue..it's the exact paint job my dad's 78 had, and the only other truck besides his that I've ever seen in that color with that stripe.
If your going to be painting it check out the seam sealer in the rain gutter. Over time it deteriorates and lets water get down inside the roof & pillar. Causing rot in the door jamb, gutter & windshield.
Check some of the sponsors on the left side of this page, and in case you're wondering what DC is, it is Dennis Carpenter, a supplier of good quality stuff for these trucks.
I think a couple other colors would go great with brown in addition to white, i.e. metallic gold, a couple different tans, or even a creme/off-white. What you want to do with your interior will help guide your decision on the roof color, to some degree.
On the brochure for 1977 it is referred to as an option "accent color" I recently discovered that this is what mine was originally and I plan on returning it to that. Mine is also the metallic brown and I quite like it in the sun.. Like a meta lflake paint job, if you are old enough to remember those! We can't get that paint in California anymore... BUT I have a friend in Colorado that can! Now I know what the trim piece in mine was for!
Dak
I had one of those trim pcs. till just a month or two ago, I scrapped it when I decided to paint my truck, I wasn't gonna make the roof a colour any different than most of the body so ripped that puppy off and made a angled pretzel out of it.........wish I'd have known someone who needed/wanted it then
Thanks for the help, looks like I can get that trim piece with fasteners at a number of places. I will definatly be checking out all the seam sealer. The truck is pretty dry and I'd like to keep it that way. And I'm going to play around in photoshop with a couple of different color combinations. The gold/tan sounds pretty good and would match the interior well.
You can check my gallery too My blue truck has the white top and did have the trim piece but was gone when I bought it. When I get to the paint I will put it back to the same color and scheme and find the trim piece
