LOL No problem Kris!!

Unfortunately, I won't be finished by Fall Brawl I'll be there, just not with the truck. I'm picking the block up from the machine shop this week. Probably be at least another month or two before the truck is running. I'm shooting to have it done for some shakedown passes at Cecil for the SOTN Fall Nats in Nov.

Well don't blow it up this time Greg. I am looking forward to seeing you put the beat down on some folks at smokin. If your truck does not make it this next time, I may be forced to give up on you. You know, that strike three thing and all.

The Cummins CR stock bottom end is plenty strong enough for 900-1000 hp and wasn't the cause of my failure. I had a hung injector which caused a piston to crack and it seized in the bottom of the bore. The rod had nowhere to go but out the side!!

I am doing a few things different though just because i'm building it from scratch. It is an 05 block which has better piston cooling and I'm using QSB 480 Marine pistons which have the later piston cooling galleys but have the earlier combustion bowls. I'm also using 24V forged rods that are peened with A1 rod bolts. Rotating assembly is balanced and the block is o-ringed. Also will be running a billet cam and tappets.

Hahahaha. There is no DP blaming, 75% of the time I/me/myself is in the 80tune. Knew what I was getting into and still going to do. I can write the check. Don't mean to make this sound neg. at all, just .02 regarding my comment and this quote.

Kris, still would like to know what signs you were starting to feel, see, hear and whatever else, that your motor was on its way.

Nice! I knew about the pistons which you had told me about, but the other extras should make that one strong SOB. Can't wait to see it. I know you were just starting to tap into the potential of your setup.

So here's a question that crossed my mind on my way to work this morning- it seems like most guys that grenade the motor don't do it when they are working the truck hard, it's typically at low speeds (20-35 mph) taking off from a stoplight from what I've read on at least this forum. Why are the failures tending to occur in these circumstances instead of under higher stress conditions?

Re-read Dockboys post since he's got plenty of experience with this. The fractures are occurring when you would expect them to, they just finally let go a little later.

I understand that Chris, its just odd that a fair amount of the blown 7.3's seem to let go when the motor isn't being pushed harder than normal.

Ummmm Maybe we should then push these engines relay hard and never not push them so there isn't a time for them to break
