unwanted ABS activity

I have a 99 Ranger 4X4, I am wondering what sensors are involved in the abs circuit and can any maintance be done on them. I am having my abs come on just before a complete stop. I had this problem before and had the sensors in the front changed wich fixed the problem. This time I would like to do it myself if it is not too difficult for a rookie. Also before it happened only when stopping with the wheels slightly turned, this time it is happening in a straight line.Thanks.

May be pole ring is dirty.... Air gap.... Dirt on sensors.

separate sensor connector and check its resistanse. Should be about 700-1800 Ohm (depends on brand), then jack wheels up and turn to 2 MPH. You should get ~1-2V, but ruther stabil, else pole rings may be bent ore air gat is more then .2 mm.

I have this problem also.. and now I have 3 brand new sensors ..
..still have the same issue..

Someone else had these symptoms and it turned out they had a broken spring on one of the drums. You might want to give the rear brakes a look to make sure nothing is out of place.
