4X4 problems (need help)

I have a 1998 F250 4X4 with the great shift on the fly auto 4X4. I have not had any problems with it until today. I got to my dirt road last night and tried to turn it on and nothing happened. I even tried to get it to engage into 4low out of N, but it would not do that. Seems to me to be an electical problem, but I checked some of the fuses and they all looked good. Any suggestions?? Anyone else have the same problem??

try outting it in 4wd and back up a little

then go forward

see if it kicks in

thats how my 96 was

Thanks! I will try that tonight.... It is just strange, no real problems, not warning lights, just does not kick in.

Ok, that worked to an extent... I turned it on, pulled forward, then backed up and did that a few times. I drove a little ways and did it again. Then drove on 1/4 mile or so and met someone on my road. When I stopped, the 4X4 light came on. It was working, but when I let off the brake, the light went off. Any ideas??
Could it be the sensor that detects the 4X4 being engaged is not working correctly??
