4x4 Conversion

I own a 92 F150 FS and its only a 2WD. I am looking into a 4x4 conversion. How much will it cost, and is it worth it??? Will i lower or raise the value of the truck? Should i do it at all? Thanks

Unless you have a great donor truck and a LOT of extra time, your better off selling what you got and getting what you want.
It can be done, but IMO it ain't worth it, unless it's some kind of custom job that has a purpose.

It would increase the value of the truck IF you used all OE parts and did it so NO one even thought of looking at the VIN to see if it was supposed to be 4WD, BUT NOT AS MUCH as it will cost you, so if your goal is to increase resale value, just keep the oil changed!

This job can be done and it's really not that that hard. The hardest part is getting the right parts. There is a tech article on how to do this, the link is on the right. It's very basic, however there are a lot of posts on this site as to how to do this project. If your somewhat mechanically inclined you can accomplish this without a sweat, and in a way that no one could tell except for the VIN. You can even get the 4x4 light on the dash to go on, the wiring is there. Other brands, like chevy or dodge are almost impossible but the ford is a bolt in job. If you sell the parts that you got out of your truck you should do ok and it won't cost you a whole lot. IMO it's easier than letting go of a truck that you're attached to.

Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .

I agree with mustang, I did the swap 2 years ago and would do it again. used an 85 donor truck to convert an 88 2wd. all factory parts, 4x4 dash light even works!! 12 hours labor on a gravel driveway, most of it in a light rain!!
might be easier in a good shop or garage!!!!

Cost depends on how good a haggler you are and whether or not you can find a complete wreck with all the stuff you need. You can plan on $400-800.
