i was looking around on ebay the other day and i saw something i need to ask about. i saw a 4.375 stroker crank. anybody seen this/used this? there's a long write up of a "disclaimer" so to speak. the largest i had seen before that is 4.25. i was just wondering if they were worth taking a serious look at or not.
There are many FE engines running 4.375. I don't know, however, if they require any clearancing in a stock block. Also, there are good crank manufacturers, and there are bad ones. Do your homework before you buy. I built a 390 with a 4.25 Scat, and it has never had a problem. Dropped right in.
North, the record setting Galaxie MT used on the salt flats in 62/3 had an overbored 406 with a 4.385 crank in it to make 482 inches. Ford called it a 'Starlifter'....went 170 or 180 something in a Gal. So yeah, the longer crank fits. Whatccccha thinkina building ? DinosaurFan
what are you a detective?? j/k
well truck for pullin. 480 ci. limit, oem heads, oem block. i'm thinkin i'll have better luck (and cheaper) finding a 360/390 block and putting in the big crank with minimal overbore putting me in the 455-465 ci range than finding a 427 block and goin with a 4.15 stroke, or a 428 block and 4.25 stroke. (cant remember off hand what they make for cubic inch but its in the ballpark.)
i would do the 460 (385) series as i have 3 of them but everyone does that. i like to be different. lookin at a 75 ford F250 4x4 for a truck, which will more than likely have a 360/390 in it.
North, how about the 360 thats already in the '75, then bore it .030 over, add the 4.375 crank, keep the D2 heads, port the heck out of them and run 2.195 intakes and 1.65 exhausts ( yeah, they'll fit ). Get a BluThunder 427MR intake with a dominator flange, then a big solid roller.....use flattop pistons, but the longer stroke and small chambered D2s should give you plenty of compression....try for like at least 12 to 1. Then fuel it with E85- it comes from a pump at the local station, right ? You'll have 458 inches of what most folks will think is only 360. Paint the intake blue, use the stock valve covers, them chevy boys won't suspect a thing. DinosaurFan
well i was on the same page as you till the E85. we dont have E85 in canada. at least i've never seen it anywhere, i'd run maybe a little more compression and VP c12. oh and i'd want to run rollers so i dont think stock covers fit. although if they do i have a set of factory chromes off of a 390GT
