I guarantee that if you tear into the motor to "just install the forged rods", you'll look at all the other things that you want to beef up and before you know it, you have dumped big $$ on what was supposed to be a rod swap. Been down that road many times over the years with my gasser muscle cars.
"Well I've already got it apart... may as well replace the valves, springs, etc. etc. etc. while it's apart and save myself the trouble of having to tear the motor apart again later." How many times have we all told ourselves something along those lines?
Hey now, don't go dissin the rods. For some people forged rods are fine, its the pistons that fail.....lol, these motors though are different though, they happen to 'just' be the lucky few.

Exactly, I'm praying that my motor stays together so I won't have to worry about really hot roddn' the 7.3.
No, they are powdered metal material, however reinforced where needed and beefed up to handle extra power. It's not the material necesarily thats junk, it's the way it was formed the same size as the forged rods.
