My wife just got me the 80G IPOD Classic as a gift, and I'd love to be able to connect it to my Alpine head unit. I have an older Alpine (CDA-7894), so I don't have the front auxiliary input but have seen cables that would allow me to to connect it via the AI-NET input on the rear of the unit. Have any of you had any experience doing this? I'd also welcome any tips, or any cable mounting/location suggestions. The 2 cables I've been able to find are...
Aftermarket radios with Ipod options like that are nice. It should allow you to stash the ipod in the glove box or other hidiehole, and control it through the head unit.
Then I would look into PAC or PIE. Pac has interfaces for aftermarket radios and I think PIE does too, one of those should allow you control the Ipod through the radio.
I have a new Alpine and Ipod. I love it. Never have to flip through CDs trying to find a song you want to hear. I stashed my Ipod in my glovebox and control it through the headunit.
It is simplistic - connected the AI-Net cable, ran the cable to the console, and plugged the IPod in there. You then set the Source to CD Changer and use the controls on the IPod for song adjustment.
The problem might be that in the reviews, one person specifically said he had problems with the cable and the 7894. He ended up changing altogether. That might be worth the phone call to Crutchfield and see what they say...
Overall, the cable worked great. No problems. Easy to connect and easy to keep IPod in reach to control. I personally like my Alpine IVA-W205 and IVA-W505 better because I can control the IPod from the screen, but I can understand wanting to use the radio you have also...
