Steering Stabilizer

To anyone who has worked with or replaced a steering stabilizer before. Does it act like a standard shock where it always extends to it's maximum? Or does it have a halfway point that it returns to?

The reason I ask is that I have a shock that I'm using as a stabilizer and it seems that it would be constantly pushing out.

A sateering stabilizer has got to be valved 50 / 50, or it will cause a pull. ONly slight pressure is required to create a pull, and having different valving will dampen at different rates, creating a problem in either, or both directions.

Stabilizers are dampers, similar to shocks, but not like the shocks we use on our suspension. Many shocks cant be mounted in a flat position, or the oil will foam, and become saturated with air, and render the damper useless.
Only a stabilizer (not a regular shock) should ever be used on a steering component.
