trouble with sputtering

this time its a different truck. my brothers 97 f250 150k 4x4. i thought it was the tps, switched it out with mine.. no change. fuel pump was leaky and replaced about a month ago. a diesel "mechanic" neighbor said it was an injector miss, stage 1's were on the way anyway. so yesterday we put them in and a high pressure oil pump. hes not gettin as much fuel as im gettin as my truck. good accel (for a lifted truck) but its still not right. replaced all the uvch and glow plugs while we were in there and valve cover gaskets. also checked the wiring outside the vc's. also switched out the idm because we had a burnt pin and there was no change. i am stumped!!! its sputtering when i lug it and falls flat on its face. sorry for the long post. thanks in advance

How far have you driven it?
It may take 20 or more miles to get all the air out of the HPOP & fuel system system.
That's the only thing I can think of besides getting a good scanner on it.

Wnen I did my HPOP I had a similiar problem. I cleaned the FPR screen while I was in there but had to do it again once I put it all back together and drove it. Try that.

Bill mentioned ,, the FPR ,, is how the air in the fuel system is removed ....

It would be worth checking ...

just an update, my brother took it up to the diesel shop and had it scanned and it threw 0281 cylinder 7 contribution/balance fault. everything else checked out fine. i would think a compression test would be in order? if that pans out, then check the injector. anyone know where i could find a compression tester for the glow plug hole??

It is certainly possible but if you do make it you still need a gauge and the right fitting to hook the gauge up. Also if you do make one make it very long cause those GP's sit a long way down in there and getting past the rocker arm is no easy task.

HELP!!! we broke down and bought a compresion tester from napa and netted a 400psi on # 7 cylinder. so i guess its the injector. we pulled it out and seen clearly it wasnt firing cause of all the carbon on the tip. the solenoid ohms out fine (3.3) and armature is at .003" and poppet looks good i guess. my question is how do you check the poppet? i want to rebuild this thing tonight but need a little help asap!! someone help!!! thanks in advance

Is it running the same as it did before the injectors were put in?

it runs a little better. im thinking the old injectors had a miss and now theres something wrong with #7. i bought them from a friend who pulled them out of a truck with 150k. like i said everything passed the scanner except for the contribution test. i am stumped!! heres what i did so far. scanned
buzz test was ok
cylinder 7 contribution code came up
no other codes
just did a compression test got 400psi
pulled injector
solenoid ohmed great
armature is great
no clue what to do or what to check next
should i rebuild another injector with the stage 1 plunger and try that? he needs the truck tomorrow
thanks for the fast reply tim DONT GO ANYWHERE!!!!

Did you build them the first time? if so then take apart the trouble injector. You might just find something wrong and can get it back together correctly. If not try the other injector (stock not stage 1) and just pull the chip until you get the stage 1 injector fixed.
