Hi, I have a 2000 F-150 5.4.Does anybody know why after 30K miles a sparkplug would just explode out of the head along with the threads. THere are no threads at all in this head. The thread chacer just drops to the bottom.
Has anybody used this product on fords stripped plug threads

Reason: Needed to change title
Sorry to hear about your bad luck....over time a spark plug that isn't torqued properly will eventually come loose and eject from the head. Ford in there infinite wisdom decided to only put four threads to hold the plugs in an aluminum head....not one of their brightest ideas.
The Timesert is the best fix compared to a Helicoil....you might have to pull the head depending on the location.
Welcome to the club, did it damage the hood at all? IF you don't want to do the fix it can range from a few hundred dollars for a front cylinder to $500+ for a rear cylinder.
No It didn't damage the hood. Worst case secairo, It was I believe #8. Far back Passenger side. It's a pain changing the plug let alone taping and putting threads in it.
The kit is 500 bucks. I could maybe borrow one if I find someone who has one for a couple hunderd. But If I gota pull the heads, I might as well pull em both and have em worked. Ya think' I did get doun there with my spark plug thread chaser. I think I might be able to get er done. Im gona hit Craigs list to see if anyone has a tool I could rent.
I have never heard of something like this happen to any other type of aluminum head. This is my first Ford and It has been the best vehicle I have owned up until now. being that it is a 4x4 I was a little p.o'd at Fords poor head design when I found out I could not wash the engine. But NOW. I Just cant explain my feelings.#$^^%&^#$%&$#%^@#%!@$
If you are going to pull the heads I'd suggest getting a set of aftermarket 8 thread heads, they run around $1200/pair and up. Patriotperformance has them.
